Mesir Macunu Festival is a large scale festival consists of various traditional practices and continues for 470 years in center of Manisa city. The Festival known and adopted throughout Turkey is based on a historical story about sharing mesir paste which is considered as a healing food.

The Festival activities start with mixing and cooking the mesir paste with prayers. Macun which is prayed on with healing wishes is scattered from the top of the minaret and domes of Sultan Mosque. Thousands of people from different regions of Turkey compete to catch the pastes before they fall to the ground.
